Due to the nature of the process, each piece is unique.

This range is inspired by the Japanese word 'shokunin' and is defined by as ‘craftsman’ or ‘artisan,’ but this literal description does not fully express its far deeper meaning. The Japanese apprentice is taught that shokunin means not only having technical skills & dedication, but also implies an attitude and social consciousness. The shokunin has a social obligation to work his/her best for the general welfare of the people. This obligation is both spiritual and material, in that no matter what it is the shokunin’s responsibility to fulfil the requirement.

" On one of my first trips to japan over 35 years ago, I met one such apprentice who started making a simple clay cup when he was just 15 years old; when I met him he was 82 and still making the very same beautifully refined cup that he had started producing all those years ago. They were elegant, functional & highly prized within the community.

Water is a life force. How we imbibe it should be given that respect; If we can have a tactile experience, the simple pleasure of drinking water connects us somewhere deeper.

The packaging we use is made from 100% recycled & unbleached Kraft™ paper with no visible branding. This simple and elegant design allows the delivery packaging to be perfectly re-usable as an ideal storage solution for your home.

  • Objects to live with

This collection has evolved from a love & understanding of the natural world and a desire to live with objects that are beautifully tactile, made in harmony with nature in an environmentally responsible & circular design.

With so many products today that do not stand the test of time caused by poor materials selection or manufacturing failures, that include unwise material combinations and unnecessary plastic packaging. These poor material choices make end of life recycling very difficult.

Here in the studio we are mindful of how we work & the footprint of every process involved. We recognise that it is about more than style and attention to detail, making conscious ethical decisions of materials and process for each and every piece.

This principle of condensing down to the finest natural elements forms the backbone of this range, uniting locally sourced materials with superior hand-craftsmanship, to create truly unique pieces of beauty, purpose and design.

‘ Hamilton moves beyond the falsity of icons to propose the need for a spiritual renaissance with nature. ’ Critical text for 'All icons are false' by curator Paul Carey-Kent.
